The Latin Programme Short Courses

Myths, Makers and Latin: A Creative Journey Through The Ancient World

Discover the magic of Latin through stories that have endured from the Ancient World.  Myths and Makers course is an eight-week online course that blends academic rigour with imaginative learning, offering students a deeper understanding of Latin while engaging with timeless stories of old.

Strong foundations support all of the modules in the course.  Students will learn new grammar and vocabulary, using abridged Latin texts and audio resources to guide them on this quest for knowledge. Students will also use Latin language and creativity to respond to the stories by making scrolls, vlogs, comic strips, maps and their own Pandora’s Box. From tablecloths to diary entries, the course weaves the media of the present with the stories of the past to create a great entry point to Latin language for upper Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 pupils.

All grammar is explained and vocabulary is given, this is not an exercise in memorisation, but a chance to see language in action in new and varied contexts, learning the subject through Daedalus’ desperate prayers and understanding noun cases through the tragic fate of Phaeton.

Whether your child is new to Latin, or has a few years under their belt, the differentiated translation exercises will meet them at their level and guide them from the rudiments to a more advanced understanding of the language, which supports their comprehension and understanding of English grammar and vocabulary too.

Your child will come away with real linguistic skills, a love of classical mythology and a portfolio of creative work to show off to all of their friends.  Give your child the best of both worlds - academic excellence and creative engagement - with Myths, Makers and Latin.
